These 3-hour mini sessions will focus on purposeful math in Home to School Connections and Dramatic Play through a mathematics lens. These interactive sessions will have participants identifying opportunities children bring from home into their classrooms and how to make purposeful mathematics connections. Having an understanding and being more aware of students' cultural and homelife backgrounds may not immediately seem mathematical, but this session will change participants' minds. We will also develop classroom-ready ideas of how to utilize the dramatic play students routinely engage in to infuse mathematical ideas. We will practice and implement purposeful in-the-moment questions disguised as casual conversation to explore life mathematically. This part of the session will illuminate the value of student devised context. All participants will leave the session with specific goals to implement before the next session in October.
