Stress Reduction for those in the Schools and Human Services
Are you stressed out? Is the human services field, working with children and other people, overwhelming for you at times? Are you experiencing feelings of exhaustion, decreased motivation, or a hard time either falling asleep or staying asleep? If so, you're not alone AND research shows that these symptoms can be improved through developing a regular self-care routine.
St. Clair County RESA will be continuing an innovative course in stress reduction for those in Human Services, during the 2024-25 school year, with class offerings during the day vs previous evening offerings. This course, also known as John Kabat Zinn's Mindful Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), will focus on developing options for effective self-care routines through Mindfulness, Intentional Breathing or Breathwork, and Gentle Yoga.
MBSR is an evidence-based practice in addressing pain management and treatment for anxiety, thus being a valuable tool for those interested in careers relating to Social Work, Therapy, Psychology, Vocational Counseling, and Education.
Full completion of this course would earn 28 SCECHs for Teachers, 28 SCECHs specifically for Counselors (20 hours towards Career Exploration SCECHs and 8 hours towards General SCECHs), and 28 CEUs for Social Workers which includes the Social Work requirement for Pain Management!
