St. Clair County RESA has developed a comprehensive training that combines guidance on eligibility determination for both Emotional Impairment (EI) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Aligned with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE), these sessions will review the evaluation process, Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) procedures, and next steps for both eligibility areas.
Participants will explore the criteria for EI and ASD, analyze strengths and challenges in the evaluation process, and walk through practical scenarios to support understanding. The training will also include a review of the newly developed ASD Eligibility and EI Guidance document. Through collaborative discussion and case examples, teams will deepen their understanding of how to apply legal guidelines to develop comprehensive evaluations that address student specific needs.
